Concurrent RDP Sessions¶
The number of simultaneous RDP sessions to a single target is determined by Microsoft RDP licensing, not by Excalibur.
| Licensing Scenario | Concurrent Sessions Allowed |
|---|---|
| Default (no additional licenses) | 2 sessions per Windows Server |
| With Microsoft RDS CALs installed | Multiple sessions (depends on license count) |
What This Means in Practice¶
- By default, any Windows Server allows up to 2 concurrent RDP sessions. This is a Microsoft limitation that applies regardless of whether access is through Excalibur or a direct RDP client.
- To support more simultaneous users on the same target, your organization needs to deploy Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Client Access Licenses (CALs) on the target server.
- Once RDS CALs are in place, Excalibur seamlessly routes each user to their own independent session on that target.
Info
Excalibur does not impose any additional session limits beyond what the target server's RDP licensing allows. If you need help determining the right licensing for your environment, consult your Microsoft licensing administrator.
